The rules of the halal slaughter are based on Islamic law, the heart of which is the unwavering fundamental that the animal must be healthy and alive at the time of slaughter and the blood must be drained out.
The critical objections to the process of stunning amongst the practitioners of halal method of slaughtering has been the efficacy of the stunning process.
Many Islamic scholars doubt the “halalness” of the animal following the stunning, as they believe animals could be killed by the process, especially small animals and poultry.
Addressing the concerns of the Islamic faith, while maintaining the animal welfare practice of stunning that the company has championed throughout its history, Accles & Shelvoke have developed a range of concussion stunners for stunning animals of all sizes.
The Accles & Shelvoke CASH® Concussion range of cartridge powered stunning tools are designed to stun animals by delivering a percussive force to the head using a non-penetrative bolt.
The concussion tools use convex or flat-faced head attached to the end of a bolt, which causes a concussive blow to the head of the animal by transferring the power of the cartridge into a percussive force of the bolt.
The stunning tools are operated by defined strengths of cartridges to deliver the required energy and concussion force to match the stunning requirements of the various animals for slaughter.
This method is compliant with religious stunning requirements, as the animal is otherwise unharmed and can be bled accordingly.
The Accles & Shelvoke CASH® Special is one of the world’s most popular captive bolt stunning tools. It leads the field of cartridge powered captive bolt stunning in its versatility, efficiency and dependability.
The modular nature of the design has led to the creation of the CASH® Special Concussion tool. This balanced design tool uses a convex head to deliver a percussive force to the head of the animal, which then automatically returns into the muzzle.
The pistol shaped frame ensures ease of use, and the durable rubberised grip gives it secure handling. It has a trigger fired mechanism with quick loading and extraction of the cartridges.
It is made in .22” and .25” calibre and is a versatile concussion stunner being able to stun a wide range of small to medium sized animals.

As the name suggests, the CASH® Small Animal Tool is used for the stunning of poultry and other small animals.
It was developed following extensive research on stunning turkeys, chickens, piglets and other small animals, for which most other stunning tools would have been too powerful.
It comes in 2 types of concussion heads. The flat-faced head is recommended for broilers and hens, and the convex head is intended for turkeys and other small animals.
Powered by a 1 grain .22” calibre cartridge, the Small Animal tool solves many of the animal welfare problems associated with stunning poultry and other small animals.

The most powerful of the Accles & Shelvoke concussion stunners, the CASH® Magnum Concussion is an extremely effective tool, combining a concussive head with the stunning energy of a wide range of .25” calibre cartridge, making it ideal for small to extremely heavy animals, such as large bulls.
The convex non-penetrating head is fired from the muzzle to deliver a sharp blow to the cranium, rendering the animal unconscious and ready for processing with minimal stress and suffering.
The power of the tool is aided by the free flight bolt, which allows the full force of the cartridge to be transferred to the animal.
